The case for collaboration: Why engineers and planners need to talk more.
AIM Network recently presented at the Atlantic Planners Institute Conference in St. John's NL alongside We6 Planners and the New Brunswick Service Commission. Our presentation highlighted some of the ways that communication between land-use planners, municipal groups, and engineers is often disjointed - and how we are bridging these gaps to create more holistic and expansive approaches to climate resilience.
When AIM Network’s executive director Matt Delorme attended the Atlantic Planners Institute Annual Conference in October, he realized something: he could count on one hand the number of engineers who were attending alongside himself. Rather than collaboration, there’s been a history of working in silos and isolation. Generally, engineers don’t work alongside planners and vice versa, creating a culture of disconnect in our work despite working towards so many of the same goals.
